CMH connects children and families with customizable experiences designed to offer foundational learning opportunities, provide parents with the support they need in their role as the first teachers of their children, and reinforce learning that occurs in school.

Community Need

Foster the development of Houston’s significant child population.

Our Response

CMH provides experiential learning through 13 bilingual hands-on exhibits, high quality early education programming, and an onsite branch of the Houston Public Library System.

Increase and support parents’ engagement in their children’s learning.

Our Response

CMH provides seven different bilingual programs focused on increasing parents’ engagement in their children's learning. To further this commitment, our Institute for Family Learning develops and delivers curriculum and programs to enhance parents’ roles as their children’s first and most important teachers.

Community Need

Provide learning experiences that reinforce and supplement classroom instruction.

Our Response

CMH offers seven out-of-school-time and summer programs to engage students in educational activities that can be tailored to their own learning interests and needs. These programs offer students the opportunity through self-initiated and facilitated projects, educational games, and inquiry challenges to strengthen their science, math and literacy skills.

Community Need

Reduce the effects of poverty on learning.

Our Response

CMH provides seven different billingual early education programs dedicated to increasing access and engaging low-income children and families. Our free-of-charge educational outreach programming serves 140,000 participants at 300+ locations across Greater Houston. As part of our commitment to serving all children, the Children's Museum Houston admits 40% of visitors at no charge.

Community Need

Serve a multi-cultural, multi-lingual population.

Our Response

CMH provides all exhibits, programs, and facilitation in English and Spanish. The Museum presents a range of multicultural exhibits and programing that encourages visitor exploration, helping cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the cultural traditions of diverse communities. Thirty-nine percent of the Museum's staff is bilingual, and 60 percent of its public contact staff speaks Spanish.

Promote workforce preparedness through the development of 21st century skills

Our Response

CMH bases its exhibits and programming on "Building Blocks for Learning" an extensive set of learning objectives that ensure strategic connections between the Museum's offerings, 21st century workplace skills, and school-based standards.
