Calling all early childhood educators! The Children’s Museum Houston invites you to apply for the Marian and Speros Martel Early Childhood Educator Award. For the past 24 years, the Children’s Museum Houston and the Martel Foundation have scoured the Houston area for teachers who possess “exemplary commitment” to educating young children.
A committee of educators will narrow down the numerous applications and visit schools to observe finalists in their classrooms. The winner will be awarded a $1,000 honorarium and a one-year membership to the Children's Museum Houston during a ceremony in April 2023. Early Childhood Educators are encouraged to submit their applications.
This year's writing prompt is:
Discuss your beliefs about teaching and learning. How do you reflect these beliefs in the way you engage the children and families that you serve? How do you feel these beliefs can positively impact the field of education? Include specific examples and/or strategies as evidence.
Candidates requirements:
Candidates must be the teacher of record in a classroom with children 8 years of age and younger, have an associate's or bachelor's degree in education, Montessori certification or Child Development Associate Certification, and at least five years of current classroom experience.
Teachers may apply directly or be nominated by a colleague or parent. Parents, principals or others who would like to nominate an Early Childhood teacher may do so by providing their nominee with this document to apply.
