Children’s Museum Houston honors Black History Month with inspiring stories, experiences, and live performances!

Children’s Museum Houston invites families to take part in a vibrant celebration of Black History Month, honoring the remarkable contributions of the African American community. Join us for a day filled with inspiring performances, storytelling, and interactive experiences that bring history, culture, and achievements to life for young minds.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS:  

Storytime – “I See You” by Alicia Pal-Singh:  Award-winning author Alicia Pal-Singh will share her heartwarming story that fosters empathy, connection, and understanding in young readers.

When: At 11 a.m. in Parent Resource Library.

 

“Celebrating Black History” by Express Children’s Theater:  A mix of music, dance, and poetry showcases the brilliance of African Americans—tracing their impact from ancient Africa to present-day Houston!

When: At noon in Brown Auditorium.

 

Author Tonya Duncan Ellis sponsored by Phillips 66:  Join local author, Tonya Duncan Ellis, for an unforgettable reading of her book “They Built Me for Freedom: The Story of Juneteenth and Houston's Emancipation Park.”

When: At 1 p.m. in Parent Resource Library.

 

“Profiles in Black” by The Ensemble Theatre:  Experience an inspiring tribute to African American heroes through songs, stories, and powerful performances.

When: At 2 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.

 

Captain America Story Times: Superheroes and history unite! Enjoy an uplifting story time that promotes empowerment and inspiration for young audiences.

When: From 10 a.m. to 3 pm. in Kid’s Hall Alcove.

 

The Griot Speaks:  Join Griot Manning Mpinduzi-Mott for a captivating storytelling session featuring ancient African tales and drumming. History and culture come to life in this engaging performance!

When: At 3:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium
