About the exhibit

FlowWorks is an interactive exhibit all about the flow, pressure and power of water. FlowWorks is more than hands-on—it’s “hands-in,” as it requires you to dip your hands in to make it work! Dive in, develop and explore your own questions as you control and change the flow of water, test how objects respond to water, and observe the impact of water’s force and energy!

Educators

FlowWorks allows kids to explore all things related to water with a hands-on, inquiry-based approach. As students explore the different areas of FlowWorks, they observe first-hand a variety of science concepts relating to water, covering topics such as force, properties of matter, energy, motion, and earth and space.

What Parents are Saying

“Totally enjoyed racing boats and playing with the water. It was hot, so a little sprinkle here and there was welcome, child or adult.”

What Parents are Saying

"Kids can experiment with blocks to create canals and levees that change the course of the water, float toy boats down the waterway, create tidal waves, or shoot water cannons at the structure just for fun.”

Exhibit Features

There’s a lot to see and do in this exhibit—check out some of these unique activities!‍

Fill the Cauldron

The more you play, the more it fills.

At the center of FlowWorks, stands our 18 foot tall Cauldron. Once full, the water comes crashing down, making an unstoppable wave of fun that activates other parts with the water’s force!

Control Water’s Flow

Discover tools and systems.

Explore and learn about adjustable channels, locks, valves, dams, pipes, Archimedes screws, aqueducts, and more. All of these tools and systems are used to control and change the flow of water.

Build and Race Boats

Cross the finish line and try not to sink!

Construct a boat using modular pieces and race your friends across the finish line. Find out what design attributes make for the fastest boats—and try not to sink!
