How Does It Grow? EcoStation is an
active, outdoor/indoor environmental
exhibit where visitors engage in
ecological studies and explore
environmental issues by visiting a
native plant garden, a woodland area, the
bayou table, the pond, and a research pavilion. Through these and several other exhibit areas, visitors can participate in diverse hands-on activities such as stream bed creation, insect collecting, leaf rubbings, footprint
identification, and more!

Visitors may also participate in always
changing programming that includes things
such as nature journals, water quality testing,
decomposition bservations, soil type explorations, home environmental awareness inventory logs, bird feeders and many more activities that can be used in the exhibit areas or even taken home for further backyard experiences!

Plus, almost all of EcoStation is now powered by solar energy - come see how we're using it and learn more about solar power in an exhibit developed in partnership with industry expert Standard Renewable Energy.

Building Zone is a kid-friendly construction area which features hands-on activities that encourage kids to learn about physics and engineering.

Explore the world of forces and examine the science behind engineering
Take on the role of civil engineer and check out key techniques needed to build sturdy structures
Check out key techniques needed to protect buildings from high winds or earthquakes
Lift heavy bags of gravel using pulleys and investigate how compression forces hold up arches

It's The Matter Factory! Step into a whimsical factory and stare straight into the future! The Children's Museum of Houston's (CMH) Matter Factory offers a glimpse into the concepts of materials science, including properties of matter and potential uses for different substances and smart materials. With 1,350 square feet of exhibit space, explore how matter matters in our daily lives. Experiment with different properties of matter, test and sort materials based on their properties, and examine unique properties of emerging materials recently developed by scientists. Traveling art exhibitions from across the world are showcased in the John P. McGovern Kid's Hall alongside Junktion, a collection of activity tables that form together to make a train. Three carts of Junktion host interactive activities, which change weekly in accordance with the WonderWeek themes. On other carts, children may paint their faces or put on a puppet show. Throughout the year, many special events are kicked off in Kids' Hall, including the widely popular New Year's Noon - Houston's longest running New Year celebration for children. During your volunteer experience, you have the chance to interact with visitors, assist staff in the action-packed exhibits or help our hard-working Administrative staff. Discovery Squad Program DOWNLOAD APPLICATION Apply today for the 2010 Summer! Deadline is April 26, 2010. The Discovery Squad, our teen volunteer program, are required to be 14 years of age prior to beginning the program and no older than 17 years old. Discovery Squad members are asked to complete a minimum of 75 hours of volunteer service to the Museum during the summer months or throughout the school year. Mirrors are used in several of the defined spaces to add to the child’s learning whether they are on their tummies gazing at themselves in the mirror in a padded area as they play or dancing with scarves in the amphitheater.

The Ball and Pillow Pit is a spot for children and their parents to explore the realm of physical knowledge by rolling, kicking and tossing a variety of balls.

Walking up carefully sized steps and over rippling bumps keeps many a toddler spell-bound on the Meandering Path. Parents walk along side playing peek-a-boo
or conversing with their child as he travels the
well-worn path learning to maneuver around
other tots.

With knobs, switches and door bells to push and turn throughout the exhibit, tots have the opportunity to experience cause and effect their actions.
